Diet thought

This is me: all I carry
This is me with my hand-me-down thoughts of my father
On the road
This is me: strained and drawn out
The dreams, when they come, are heartless
They give me a homeland
And a home

There was fire on the skyline last night
Such a clattering of memories set alight again
Shot down, cut down, burnt down now
And still my only journey's end lies back home

Dust and insects cloud the sunlight
They burn in this heat like all I've seen burns in my memory
Set alight again
This hard earth holds no comforts
The dirt and the stones, like my clothes and my bones, have been used too much
And worn thin

There was fire on the skyline last night
Such a clattering of memories set alight again
Shot down, cut down, burnt down now
And still my only journey's end lies back home

This is for my mother
This is for my sister
This is for my child on the road...

...that's the thought I survive on
Just the thought to put one foot in front of the other
And move on

There was fire on the skyline last night
Such a clattering of memories set alight again
Shot down, cut down, burnt down now
And still my only journey's end lies back home
My only journey's end lies back home
Lies back home
Lies back home

I don't want to be lost in a grave with nameless other needle-thin men
Under a wounded sky
